Welcome

Welcome to Language.ws!

Language.ws aims to provide opportunities to all language learners.

We are a non-profit community with one main objective: make sure that learning a language is available to everyone. Language.ws is a place where users share views, opinions, comments, hyperlinks (URLs) to other publicly available sources for learning + teaching languages. No materials are hosted on this site’s server.

Access to Language.ws is free. No yearly fee like you see on some other sites and no marketing tricks of any kind.

All contribution to Language.ws – from admins to regular users – is completely voluntary.

We hope you enjoy your stay!

Re-uploading / Mirrors

We now have a special tool for those users who wish to help us with re-uploading dead files.

As we have explained before, the site ‘lives’ from the links, so we need to make them ourselves. But you can help find them and upload them to this re-uploader, which would help us a lot. Also, we don’t have any real databases, which means that some posts are hard to find back.

In the bottom of each post, there’s a Deposit Files uploader. Just use the uploader to upload the file and then post a comment with that link and some info on the link (size, format). After that we can do the rest if needed.

The proccess is very simple, just click in the uploader, then Browse in your files.

001

Click in Upload, and wait till it finishes.

002

Finally it will generate the Download Link, which can be copied and posted in the comments.

Terms of Use

The content on this site is collected from public resources that are freely available on the Internet, and is intended solely for educational purposes.

You agree to use any materials you may find there for personal review purposes only and to purchase the hard copy if and when possible.

Who are we?

Language.ws aims to provide opportunities to all language learners.

Languages open doors all over the world and expand the mind to include other cultures, traditions and ideas. Such communication will cultivate a spirit of tolerance and understanding.

We believe that language learning, which is the key to culture, education and tolerance, should be free for all.

We are just a few people here, maintaining this site. We are people like you, with jobs, family and a life, working on this community, trying to make it nicer and better.

We hope you will enjoy your stay, and if you have any questions:

Our e-mail – contact@language.ws

What is this site for?

Language.ws is a place where users share views, opinions, comments, hyperlinks (URLs) to other publicly available sources for learning + teaching languages.

We provide a platform where users can meet and improve their language(s) by discussing methods and material, meeting friends for chatting, and by asking for help with any questions related to learning and teaching. Any links to material found here can be used for personal review purposes only before purchasing the hard copy / original according to our “terms of use”.

As Language.ws does not host any files, please follow the download links in the posts. Language.ws is neither responsible for what its members post nor for any other actions of its users.

Why we need donations

We started Language.ws in December 2014. This project is completely run by volunteers.

And we are growing fast on a daily basis. Right now we are hosting 50.000+ posts, we have 4000 users visiting us daily and 25.000+ pageviews every day. The premium filehosts generate enough money to pay for themselves. The server costs however are not covered and till now we were paying these costs out of our own pockets.

As we do not have any paid advertisements (yet) on our website, which could cover some of the costs – we need your help!

On the left side on the website you will find a button where you can donate using PayPal. Every donation, how small it may be, would be a big help and a huge encouragement for us.

Thanks!
LWS team

How to communicate on this website

There are different areas where you can communicate on this website. You have the chat, comments, mail and the forum. Naturally in all of these areas you have to use the rules of common decency, use respectful language, no trolling or flaming, and so on.

Communication in the CHAT:

see chat rules here: http://language.ws/faqrules/rules/

Communication in COMMENTS:

Comments are only for communication on that particular post. You can write in the comments that you like a post, or add things there that help the post (like bringing the audio to a post that has only book). We have no need for negative comments. If you think something is wrong, just do it better and add, all the while appreciating the efforts and time spent by the uploader. So criticism is fine, but only when it is constructive. Not doing so may result in a (temporary) ban.
You are allowed to add mirrors in the comments (to help – not for money making). In some areas comments may be held for moderation. This is just a standard procedure and normally the comment will be approved asap. We have added the LWS uploader especially for this purpose. Please use it for all your links on this site.

Communication in MAIL:

Under “contact” (in the menu or in the bottom of this website) you can communicate with us. You can use email, or use the contact form there.

Our e-mail – contact@language.ws

Communication on the FORUM:

You see a number of categories in the forum. All of them have a short explanation. So you should have a good idea what goes where. Any questions, just contact us.
The forum is only accessible when you are logged in to the website. They are not open to the outside  world.
Under each thread you see a button “add reply”. Use that to add your reply to a thread. Use “add topic” if you want to create a new thread yourself. New members will be moderated until approved.

What we like

Several thousand members from all over the world meet on Language.ws; many of them students, teachers but also beginners. We appreciate any help users offer to us: a note if something is wrong (cover, description), a friendly word in the Chat, a helpful comment in reply to a question in the comments or forum, hints, experience and new ideas.

Everybody appreciates a nice and polite way of communicating; remember that everybody is here in his or her free time and nobody owes you anything.

All users, especially newbies with bad communication abilities, appreciate support whenever it is needed. If you don’t know the answer yourself, just link them to our Rules/FAQ/Help and/or Forum, please, where all important topics are explained in detail. Be tolerant and respect other members and their beliefs and point of view.

Please avoid religious and political discussions on our site and respect our site rules.

Site Security Concerns

In order to avoid a high serverload which could compromise the site’s integrity, and in the interest of maintaining consistent protection against malicious scripts or hacks, we enforce a fair use policy across our site. Therefore a safety system has been implemented for the site.

This involves a limited number of postviews/downloads given to each user on a daily basis. When you reach the aforementioned daily limit, your download capacity will be disabled for the rest of that day. You can come back the next day and resume your activities without any problems.

The limitation is merely a reminder, and it aims to protect the true language learners who could be affected by extreme users.

What we don’t like

We do not like and are not willing to accept unfriendly questions or comments like “MIRRORS!!!” or “UPLOAD AUDIO!!” “I NEED THIS URGENTLY” or users giving orders to other users or the site crew.

When you have a problem, give details about it please, we cannot see what you do on your computer!

Always be patient, please. Converting or mirroring can take a long time, especially with big files.
If you are not satisfied with the quality of the material: people share what they have and what they find. Don’t ask for more! If you don’t like it: just don’t download it. Please be grateful for what you’re getting for free.

PM’s

Often we were asked: Can we have PM’s on LWS (personal messages).
And as most of you know, we did not have those – we used email to communicate.
But, since it is our first Christmas we have decided to make an exception.

Today LWS is celebrating its first Christmas with you!!!
And, as is the custom, we would like to celebrate this happy event with our users.
We have decided to try out and put in a system of PMs as our 2015 Christmas gift for your efforts, loyalty and friendship.
From today on, you will be able to use internal PMs with the other users.

You will find the PMs on your page at the left side, right under the login.

Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year!!!

How to...

How to make a request for material that is not yet on the site

You can request material that is not yet on the site in the Request zone in the forum http://language.ws/forum/requests

Try to give as much info as possible as to make sure we are looking for the correct material, like exact title, cover pic, isbn, author, edition etc
A link to amazon could be helpful too, but do not put any links to other download sites.

Some materials are just not (yet) on the net and some requests might take a while before they are found. Please be patient and know that we regularly search (again) for all our requests.

Users are very welcome to help as well. Do not hesitate to have a look at the requests and see if maybe you have something that is requested.

How to Register

Before you can participate on Language.ws you will need to register. On the top left of the site you will see a part called “login”. There you will see a link “register”. Click on “register”and you will see the screen below.

Fill in your desired username, your REAL e-mail address, mark “I have read and understood the rules above”, the solution to the math question, and click on the blue button “Register”. A password will be e-mailed to you.

Check your e-mail (if you do not see the e-mail then also check your spam folder please) – and then login to the site with your username and password.

Sometimes users manage to register with an unacceptable username. Be aware that your account can/will be disabled at any moment, without any warning.

And some people think they need several accounts… Again, be aware that your accounts can/will be disabled at any moment, without warning.

Usernames like ‘EnglishTeacher’ ‘DutchTutor’ etc. are considered hidden marketing and are not accepted. Such accounts will be disabled.
If you would like to promote your online teaching endeavours, please contact us about an ad on the site. We have special offers for teachers.

I found a dead link, what should I do next?

On language.ws you will find that the links to download from are usually on filehosts. There are many different filehosts like turbobit, filefactory, depositfiles, and the list goes on.

Such a link on a filehost does not live forever. It can get deleted from the filehost for many reasons. A common reason is: links from free filehosts expire (mostly 30 or 90 days after the last download).

So I found a dead link, what should I do next?

NOTHING.
At the moment we do not have enough effective (no helpful users) or time to re-upload any dead links. If you found one, sorry, tough luck.

You can check if there are other filehosts on that post that still work. In that case there is no problem because you can still download.

You can try to contact the original uploader maybe, by pm, and ask for a re-upload.
But please, do not ask for a re-upload in the chat!

How do I change my picture/avatar?

On the site we have standard avatars that are automatically added to an account. Nobody chose these and we cannot change them. But, if you would like to have your own avatar, you can use Gravatar.

You need to upload your image in Gravatar.

First, login or sign up in gravatar.com (make sure to use the same email you have here in language.ws):
https://pt.gravatar.com/support/how-to-sign-up/

Then, after you’re logged there, upload your avatar:
https://pt.gravatar.com/support/activating-your-account/

The picture uploaded will then appear here, both in the site and in the forum

How to Download (general)

To find the download links in a post, first you need to be logged in to the website. After logged in there are 2 ways to go to the post info. Click on the post title, or at the end of a post click on “read more”.

You will see something similar to this:

Clicking on the blue underlined links will bring you to the download sites.

Rules

General Rules

SITE RULES:

POSTING RULES:

Posts should not contain a password. There are still a number of older posts that contain a password in the archive. In such a case, please inform us by using the orange ‘report content’ button.

When you want to post -you must use a link(s) that can be easily downloaded by this administration as your link(s) will be replaced by our links.

Use only this link for inserting post pictures /pictures/ . Other hosts are not allowed.

Fiction books are not allowed, with exception of graded readers, bilingual reading books and children’s books up to the age of 8. Comic books are allowed as they are good for language learning.

Magazines: Magazines that are related to language learning are allowed, as well as magazines that have a general interest for language learners (culture, history, etc.). Travel magazines not really, unless there is extra cultural info that is interesting, like nat geo has specials on countries.

As the actuality of magazines has a limited time-span, they will not be re-upped after the link dies. With exception of magazines directly for language learning (i.e. vocable, hot english, etc.)

Newspapers: Can be posted but only in limited amount. And they will not be brought back when the links expire.

NO WHEELING OR DEALING:

You are not allowed:

– to ask for money,
– to offer to sell or buy anything or
– to organize groups in order to make a group purchase.

CHAT RULES:

In principle any language is allowed in the chat, considering though that it is meant for communication. Using languages that most people do not master might cause exclusion and that is not the idea. So use this option carefully. Our chat is a public chat, for all users. Anyone can join, participate and add to a ongoing conversation at anytime. Site administration will use mainly English for communication.

It should be clear and understood that our chat is not meant as a marketing place for other sites. Do not link to other sites! Exceptions are Amazon and Google, youtube sometimes (a link a day maybe, but we’re not a radio station either) and to some informative sites maybe (like BBC or such maybe, although those are meant to be posted in the forum, not in the chat).

Special options of the chat are exclusively for use of the site administration.

  • Rule 1… be polite! Respect each other and yourself.
  • Rule 2… no links to other sites, no gossiping, trolling or spamming and requests should be made in the forum. Do not ask for mirrors in the chat, there is a button for that in each post.
  • Rule 3… site administration is (almost) always right

Failure to follow the rules might result in a chat ban (see Chat Ban).

CHAT BAN:

Not following the chat rules might result in a one-week chat ban as a warning. If the problem persists the warning will become a permanent chat ban. Coming back with another nick during ban results definitely in a permanent ban. While having a chat ban you can not use the chat. You can still download from the site.

SITE BAN:

Not following the rules can result in a ban as a warning. If the problem persists the warning will become a permanent ban. Coming back with another nick during ban results definitely in a permanent ban. You can not access the site anymore when you have a site ban (no downloads, no chat, no forum).

The site blocks IPs and/or diables accounts of users who have broken our rules, cheated, or have created multiple accounts. Also ‘collectors’, those users who download not by the dozens but by hundreds, will be blocked.
If you’re unlucky enough to assume the same IP as a banned user, there’s nothing we can do. We do not remove ip bans so don’t ask!

PROXY

Why can’t I use a proxy on your site?
It is our policy not to allow new accounts to be opened from behind a proxy.
Any account found using a proxy to mask real ips (this includes TOR proxies) will be disabled and banned.
